Registration, Sponsorship and call for presentation of papers information is now
available on our website. The registration brochure enables people to book in for the
conference and related activities. Sponsorship documents enable interested parties and
organisations to contribute to and participate in the conference. Refer to the document
for opportunities and share these with relevant organisations.
Call for Papers and Presentation are still open, inviting interested parties to provide
papers, workshops and other activities in the parallel 45-minute session parts of the
program. RSVPs are required by 27 August.

LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2010

We have three Leadership Award categories that are available to TAFE staff in 2010:
1. The TAFE NSW Managers Association Leadership Award
2. AUSTAFE Emerging Leader's Award
3. AUSTAFE Educational Leadership Award
The awards will be presented at the AUSTAFE Conference Dinner on 14 October 2010. The
awards will be a feature of the AUSTAFE Conference Dinner and we are looking forward to
having our DD-G Pam Christie present the awards on this occasion.
Please download the award nomination forms and encourage relevant colleagues to
complete the application and to submit them by the relevant dates in August and September.

AUSTAFE Conference Invitation to Provide Presentations

We invite interested parties to submit abstracts for presentation of papers and
workshops at the AUSTAFE Conference to be held on 14 and 15 October 2010. The Conference
theme is Leadership, Innovation and Workplace Culture and we are looking for interested
parties to make submissions to present sessions in keeping with the conference theme.
Please refer to the flyer attached for more information and encourage relevant people
and parties to provide abstracts and submissions for presentation at the conference. The
call for abstracts closes on Friday 27 August 2010.

MENTORING VIDEO CLIPS

Ann Rolfe has kindly provided us with four Mentoring video clips to upload on our
website. You may wish to gain further information about mentoring by visiting ann@mentoring-works.com.
We are still keen to receive mentor nominations from our members and to receive
mentee request forms from interested TAFE staff who wish to participate in our Phase 3
2010 mentoring program.

LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2010

Nominations are invited for the TAFE NSW Managers Leadership Awards for 2010. These
awards were introduced in 2004. Last year we received 17 nominations from across
Institutes. We granted five leadership awards from the excellent nominations.
We are looking forward to receiving nominations up until 18th September 2010. This will
enable us to review the applications and to present the awards at the AUSTAFE Conference
which is being held in mid October at the Citigate Central in Sydney.

nominations.

Mentoring Program 2010

Our Mentoring Program phase three has reopened for 2010.
Members are invited to nomimate as Mentors from 1 June or as Mentees for 2010.
Mentees will be offered mentoring arrangements from 1 July.

VET/TAFE Practitioner Presentation

A VET / TAFE Practitioner Presentation / Workshop will be presented by
Hugh Guthrie - Principal Researcher Consultant with NCVER prior to the AGM on Thursday 17
June 2010. Please see the flyer attached for more details and registration requirements.
Hugh will be presenting recent NCVER research finding on the contemporary and advanced VET
/ TAFE Practitioner / Teacher.

The organising team is currently planning the Conference focusing on the theme of
"Leadership, Innovation and Workplace Culture". The Conference will be held at
the Citigate Hotel in Ultimo with a welcome function on the evening of 13, and two full
days of conference on 14 and 15 October 2010.
Early bird registration is now available. Please note the dates in your diary and

AVETRA Conference 2010 - Report

WELCOME FUNCTION 2010

We are pleased to report that the Welcome Function held on 25 March 2010 was highly
successful and that we have available the PowerPoint and Podcast presentations on the
website.
A special thanks to Stephan Ridgway for his technical skills in making the Podcast
available and to Pam Christie, DDG TAFE-CE DET NSW for her presentation given her recent
appointment to the position, to Peter Roberts for his presentation on the LMBR and to
Diana Khabbaz for her presentation on developments with VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)
in TAFE.

AVETRA CONFERENCE 2010

The 13th AVETRA Annual Conference will be held at the Holiday Inn, Surfers Paradise on
8-9 April 2010. Over 100 research papers and workshops have been submitted for
presentation at this conference.

WELCOME FUNCTION 2010

TAFE Managers invites renewing and prospective members to our Welcome Function for
2010. This will be held at Meadowbank College and will provide participants with the
latest information of how LMBR (Learning Management Business Reform) will impact on your
work.
We will also be welcoming Pam Christie as the new DDG of TAFE - CE at the function. Pam
is keen to meet with our members as she takes on her new leadership responsibilities.

End of Year Function

Please see attached the invitation to the TAFE NSW Managers End of Year function. The
function has been organised as a celebratory occasion for managers in relation to our work
in 2009.
The Directors General have been invited to address TAFE Managers and to provide some
comment on TAFE Directors Australia developments.
We will also be acknowledging our Mentoring Program and participants at this
occasion.

OctoberVET 2009

The flyer for the Sydney OctoberVET has been placed on the
web site. This forum will be held at Randwick TAFE College on Friday afternoon of 6
November 2009. The focus will be on "the changing nature of workplaces
and workforce requirements" and on "building VET research
capacity".

MENTORING PROGRAM 2009

The TAFE Managers' Mentoring Program was launched at the AGM on 18 June.
Invitations are now extended for members to nominate their availability to be
mentors, please nominate by 30 November by completing a Mentor Nomination form.
Mentors will be drawn from members and available participants in the 2008 program
and from those who participated in the mentoring training workshop in 2009.
Invitations are also open for mentees to request a mentor. The closing date for
these requests is 30 November 2009. The mentees will be encouraged to participate in a
mentoring conversatoion to address their area of educational and management
leadership interest.

forms as relevant and return to Kevin Heys by email.
