Dear Colleagues,
We are very pleased to invite you to our end of year forum "Messages from
Above" - 2011 which will be addressed by our new DG Michele Bruniges and our DDG Pam
Christie. This will be an opportunity for our members and supported to come along and meet
with the Director General and the Deputy Director General in the climate of
change for the Department of Education and Communities and TAFE in the Tertiary
Sector.
Diary date is Tuesday, 6 December at Building A Ultimo Campus.

OctoberVET Sydney, 2011

We are pleased to report that Sydney OctoberVet 2011 will be held at UTS on 28 October
2011 in the Aerial Function Centre. The theme for the OctoberVet is "Skills for Whose
Prosperity?" and it will highlight recent research in relation to topical areas about
skill development in Australia.

Skills Australia Presentation

We are pleased to provide you with the PowerPoint and Podcast from Marilyn Hart's
presentation on Skills Australia's recent report "Skills for Prosperity - A Roadmap
fir Vocational Education and Training". This presentation was provided on 15 June
prior to our Annual General Meeting.
The presentation provides an excellent insight to the recommendations that are being
proposed by Skills Australia in relation to future directions for Vocational Education and
Training in Australia. We are very grateful to Marilyn, who is a Director of Skills
and Provider Policy at Skills Australia, for her presentation.

Leadership Awards 2011

We encourage you to nominate TAFE colleagues or to be nominated for the TAFE NSW
Managers Leadership Awards for 2011.
We are keen to acknowledge the great work which is being done by leaders in TAFE
especially up to and including the IM2 level of leaders in TAFE. The TAFE Managers
Leadership Awards are designed attract nomination of leaders in the categories outlined in
the attached flyer. Five awards will be made to successful nominees at our Annual
Conference on the 26 August
Please help us build the pool of nominations and to celebrated the the great and
emerging leadership capabilities of our collegaues in TAFE. Please refer to the flyer
attached and address the criteria and rsvp by Friday 5 August 2011.

Skills Australia Workshop

Mentoring Program 2011

Our Mentoring Program phase four has opened for 2011. Members are invited to nominate
as mentors and / or mentees. Mentees will be put in contact with suitable mentors.

AGM 2011

Notice of the Annual General meeting has been posted on the website to be held on the
Wednesday 15 June at the CITIGATE CENTRAL Ultimo. Nominations are called for office
bearers of the Association for half of the representatives for 2011- 2013.
The AGM will be proceeded by a presentation and workshop from Skills Australia. Notice
to follow shortly.

Proposed Program 2011

We are pleased to provide you with our proposed program for TAFE NSW Managers for
2011. The program has been evolving since January and has been distributed at our Welcome
function.
Our Second function will be held at Mt Druitt College WSI this coming Wednesday the 18
May. We welcome members and guest to participate. Register via the Contestable Market
Forum brochure listed below.
Our AGM is planned for the 15 June to report on the past years activities, to hold
a half election and to have a guest speaker and refreshments. Notices will follow in the
near future.

Membership Brochure and Letter

We are pleased to provide you with our membership brochure and letter which provides
details on how to pay for your financial membership for the year 2011. The brochure
provides details about the Association and it can be used to enable current and new
members to become financial members of the Association.
Most of our members join both the NSW TAFE Managers Association and AUSTAFE which is
done via the AUSTAFE website. Several of our members prefer to join just the NSW TAFE
Managers Association, which is done by payment online directly to our account with the
Teachers Credit Union.
Please refer to the brochure and letter for information on membership payments. We
acknowledge that many have already joined and others are encouraged to join for calendar
year of 2011.

Contestable Market Forum
May 9th, 2011
We are pleased to welcome members and non-members to participate in our second forum
for the year which is focusing on Contestable Markets and the VET Labour Market. This will
be held in the evening at Mt Druitt College on 18 May 2011.
We are very pleased to announce that Dr Phil Toner will be sharing his research with
us. Phil is a Senior Research Fellow from the Centre for Industry and Innovation Studies
at UWS. We welcome you to join with the panel session and discussion as part of the
forum.

AVETRA Conference - 27-29 April 2011

The 14th AVETRA Annual Conference will be held at the Rendezvous Hotel
Melbourne, VIC on Thursday, 28 – Friday, 29 April 2011.
Pre-conference workshops and Welcome Reception will be on Wednesday,
27 April 2011.
Over 100 research papers and workshops have been submitted for presentation at this
conference. The conference title for this year is "Research in VET: Janus -
Reflecting back, projecting forward".
Information about the conference, program and registration can be obtained from

Welcome Function 2011

We are pleased to invite you and your relevant colleagues to the Welcome Members
Function of the TAFE NSW Managers Association. The function will be held at the SEE Street
Gallery at Meadowbank College on the evening of Thursday 24 March 2011.
We are delighted that Paul Callaghan, Director, New England Institute TAFE NSW
will be the guest speaker addressing the topic of "Social Inclusion Moving from
a Deficit to a Value Added Construct".
We welcome you bring prospective new members to join with us at this welcome function
and to participate in this function and to enjoy refreshments with colleagues. The
function is being hosted by the Association and is free of charge. Please RSVP to Robyn

Mentoring Video

available on our website. The registration brochure enables people to book in for the
conference and related activities. Sponsorship documents enable interested parties and
organisations to contribute to and participate in the conference. Refer to the document
for opportunities and share these with relevant organisations.
Call for Papers and Presentation are still open, inviting interested parties to provide
papers, workshops and other activities in the parallel 45-minute session parts of the

AUSTAFE Conference Invitation to Provide Presentations

MENTORING VIDEO CLIPS

LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2010

Nominations are invited for the TAFE NSW Managers Leadership Awards for 2010. These
awards were introduced in 2004. Last year we received 17 nominations from across
Institutes. We granted five leadership awards from the excellent nominations.
We are looking forward to receiving nominations up until 18th September 2010. This will
enable us to review the applications and to present the awards at the AUSTAFE Conference
which is being held in mid October at the Citigate Central in Sydney.

WELCOME FUNCTION 2010

We are pleased to report that the Welcome Function held on 25 March 2010 was highly
successful and that we have available the PowerPoint and Podcast presentations on the
website.
A special thanks to Stephan Ridgway for his technical skills in making the Podcast
available and to Pam Christie, DDG TAFE-CE DET NSW for her presentation given her recent
appointment to the position, to Peter Roberts for his presentation on the LMBR and to
Diana Khabbaz for her presentation on developments with VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)

MENTORING PROGRAM 2009
Nov 18th, 2009
The TAFE Managers' Mentoring Program was launched at the AGM on 18 June.
Invitations are now extended for members to nominate their availability to be
mentors, please nominate by 30 November by completing a Mentor Nomination form.
Mentors will be drawn from members and available participants in the 2008 program
and from those who participated in the mentoring training workshop in 2009.
Invitations are also open for mentees to request a mentor. The closing date for
these requests is 30 November 2009. The mentees will be encouraged to participate in a
mentoring conversatoion to address their area of educational and management
leadership interest.
